Starring: Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Geoffrey Rush, Chow Yun-Fat, Bill Nighy
So we’re back for the third installment of POTC and it begins with Will Turner (Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Knightley) and Captain Barbossa (Rush) saving Capt. Jack Sparrow (Depp) from Davy Jones’s Locker. After they rescue him, they all team up to battle evil Lord Beckett and the East India Trading Co, who has commandeered The Flying Dutchman to try and eradicate the pirate population.
What you can expect:
~ To be sitting in a dark theater for 3 hrs
~ Fantabulous battle scenes
~ Great humorous scenes from Johnny
~ A more prominent role from Keira–as well as her character
~ Great CGI effects
~ A glimpse of what Davy Jones (Nighy) used to look like before he became half-octopus
~ The convoluted sub-plots: releasing Calypso, Nine Lords of the Bretheren Court, betrayals, etc. But who cares about that. Get back to the fighting!
What you won’t expect:
The death of a major character. Needless to say I was stunned when it happened and wanted to cry out at the injustice of it all, jump up, and claw the movie screen. But I managed to remain calm. Barely.
Overall, I thought it was a bit too long and I’m ready to see Johnny Depp as something other than a pirate.
