In Yahoo Headlines today: 15 yr old starts freshman year at Penn
I saw this today and thought of my character, Draven Atreides. Except, she’s not going to college right now. She’s working for The Company (her words, not mine). I think she’d like to go to college eventually. Draven was 13 when she graduated from high school. In the article, they mention another girl who enrolled in college two months before her 13th birthday and graduated in 2004, at the age of 16. Crazy, isn’t it? Both girls aren’t old enough to vote. And one girl has a college degree in something and the only job she’s going to be qualified for–agewise–is fast food. Possibly retail.
So let me ask you this: Is 13 too young to go to college? What do you think the ramifications would be? Or do you think there would be? Would you let your own child start college that young?
Inquiring minds want to know.
