Weekend Wrap-Up

March 18, 2008 | The 4-1-1 on Me

On Saturday, I was a vendor at the Coyote Hills Elementary School PTSO Spring Carnival. The price was right, so I thought I might take the opportunity to set up shop. All the action was going on outside, which was where the majority of the crowd was, so for a while I was thinking we vendors would have had better exposure outside.

Until I stepped out there to buy food tickets and the wind tried to lift my skirt and show everyone my business.

Oooh, look at that. A nice, non-windy spot inside the cafeteria.

The cake walk was a treat. Remember those? Cake walks? Talk about blast from the past. The last time I saw one–let alone participated in one–was when I was in elementary school. Kids and adults alike were whoopin’ and hollerin’ like they won the lottery. The Sugar Overload Lottery, that is.

It was fun. And I even found a high school graduation gift for my niece.

On Sunday, I spent 5 hrs getting new hair

courtesy of Louise and Anna of Destiny African Hair Braiding. 2 Braiders! Half the time! One low price! They do micros, invisible (not sure what that is), Zilian and Box braids (say what?), kinky Senegalese (git yer mind out of the gutter) and Nubian twist, weave corn rows, fix wig…and a lot more, I imagine.

I had to warn my coworkers on Friday that I was getting it done so they would know it was me sitting in that cubicle, not some imposter. It’s been two days and some people I work with still don’t recognize me. The reactions are pretty funny. And to answer your questions–cuz I know you want to ask…it took only 5 hours; yes, it hurts a little, especially around the forehead and temple area; it’ll last 3 months; it’s human hair, so I can wash it, curl it, use reg’lar styling products etc (although I probably won’t wash it, wash it for a few more weeks); my own hair is still there, it’s just braided in; and yes, it’s totally going to suck when they come out because it’s so time consuming.

So, how was your weekend?

Whoa! It’s gorgeous!!!!!! Five hours, eh? I hope the place is fun or you had a good book… or two.

My surgery and a couple of bad decisions have damaged my hair so much–have been considering cutting it. But I might just have to go back to my very, very expensive and miracle worker hairdresser to see if he can fix.

    Nice hair. =)

I love the hair!! Cake Walks. Wow I remember those back in grade school.lol They’re fun, but I don’t miss the sugar as much.

My weekend wasn’t too exciting. Went to a friend’s house to play D&D, did stay because new characters couldn’t be added, so we came back home and I got to watch my husband play Guitar Hero with another friend.lol It was a nice evening.

Today we’re headed to the park for an easter egg hunt. Our town’s version of an easter egg hunt however is, walking around from station to station to pick up goodies. What happened to real easter egg hunts???

Wow. You look gorgeous, Celise. Reminds of all the times I’ve ever had my hair done, waaay back in primary school when it was waaaay long; I’ve had it up in rollers for weddings and got it permed, once, too, which was pretty cool (and looked really nice.) I can totally empathise with the time taken and the “suffering.” But it looks amazing, sounds like it was worth it for you. ;-)
