Weekend Wrap-Up 8/8: fashion shows, townhomes and itchy eyes.

August 19, 2008 | The 4-1-1 on Me, Weekend Wrap-Up

Better late than never, eh?

Saturday, the 9th, I modeled new jewelry pieces at the Jewels by Park Lane Fashion Show. I don’t plan to be a “fashion director”, but I got a free piece of jewelry out of it. Although I had to pay $25 like everybody else to get it. The lunch was an anemic chicken Caesar salad, but the dessert, a chocolate/raspberry mousse, was pretty tasty. That will probably be the one and only time I’ll wear all that jewelry at once. I’m not a jewelry-freak. I wear my silver wedding ring on my left hand, my gold college class ring and a gold filigree-type ring on my right hand. When it’s working, I wear a watch on my left wrist.

And that’s it.

Before I met my hubby, I was wearing 6 rings: three on my left (the silver hand) and three on the right (the gold hand), a jade pendant necklace my father had gotten from Korea, and an ID bracelet that I’d worn since the 8th grade. Even though I have pierced ears, I rarely wear earrings. The last time I wore earrings (before this fashion show, that is) was 2 yrs ago when I got married.

They asked what I was wearing ahead of time so that they could match me with the right jewelry. I decided on basic black and silver: CLICK ON PIC FOR LARGER VIEW

Dress: Black Twist Front dress from Avon
Shoes: my “wedding” shoes. Don’t remember where I got them.
Hair: Lisa (friend and co-worker)

The new ensemble I was wearing was called Wild One (this company has really cool names for their jewelry!): earrings, necklace, ring, bracelet. Very cool. The pieces available now that I also wore: silver Inner Circle necklace as a belt, the Metallic ring the Cosmo Braceletand the Geneve Watch. The majority of the women there were “fashion directors”. And by that, I mean they sold Park Lane jewelry. These women wore layers of necklaces, bracelets and rings. It was crazy. I think I might have to create a jewelry-wearing character. My free piece of jewelry was a pair of earrings that I’ll never wear. I’ll save them and give them away when my next book comes out.

Saturday afternoon, the hubby and I checked out some townhouses. We’ve decided to move out of our house sometime next year (the hubby hates yard work), for those of you that didn’t know before. We looked at these and these. We looked at several floor plans and were able to eliminate the ones we didn’t like in two ways: 1) the location of my office and his workout room (the farther apart, the better) and 2) the distance of the master bedroom to the utility room (the closer, the better). One floor plan had the MB on the 3rd floor and the utility room on the 1st. Do you think I want to carry a full basket of clothes down 4 flights of stairs? Hell no. We’ve decided to go with this place.

Word to the wise: For the ladies who very rarely wear mascara (I know, who does that? There are some freaks out there that do, believe me), don’t use a tube that’s two yrs old or else you’ll wake up with swollen, red, itchy eyes. Lesson learned.

So, what do you think of these Olympics? I’m so beyond pissed with the gymnastics scoring I just want to pound some officials.

  1. Suzy :) says:

Am I seeing this right? The Brisa… you have a full flight of stairs to get to the main living area? Which means groceries go up a flight? Eek! I wouldn’t like that… of course I’m not the one shopping. It is SO HARD to find something that fits ALL your needs in one home!!!

How do you like the location? Is it convenient to family? work? play?

  2. Celise says:

Suzy - We like the location and we’re closer to my parents, actually, than any other family member. It’ll be closer to work for the hubby, but a little farther for me. We just don’t want to live so far out that it takes an hr to get to and from work.
