Random Thought #9

November 24, 2008 | Random Thoughts

I was driving home from work last week and saw a car with personalized plates that said: MNEPENY.

I had to smile because my first thought was, “Hey, another James Bond fan.”

My second thought was “Aww. I miss my cat.” I named my second cat (it seems I’m partial to the Tabby family) Moneypenny.

My third thought was “Well, damn, why didn’t I think of that for my license plate?”

And then I was reminded of the recent Bond movies and how there was no Moneypenny. I keep forgetting that these movies are “the beginning,” before Moneypenny, and before Q and all his wonderful gadgets. Everything we’ve seen thus far (from Sean to Pierce) is technically considered to be “after.”

So, Daniel Craig is supposed to be the harder, edgier Bond.

And it makes me wonder how many more Daniel Craig Bond movies we’ll see without Moneypenny and the Q gadgets.

Personally, I’m partial to the gadgets. I think they’re so friggin’ cool. And I miss the flirty, teasing relationship Bond had with Moneypenny.

What about you? Do you prefer Bond with or without the gadgets? Should they bring Moneypenny back?

I haven’t seen the most recent film, but I did see Daniel Craig’s Casino Royale, which, in my humble opinion, was too damn long. He’s alright as Bond – he adds grit, I’ll give him that, but where is the ladies’ man?! I did love Q and all his incredible inventions. Thank goodness M’s still around.

LOVE the gadgets. LOVE Moneypenny… my whole family unit (husband and parents) are going tomorrow ~ we’ll have to trade notes! You are of the same ilk as my Dad, who swears by Pierce. I like the flawed, almost-got-himself-killed Daniel. But, we’ll see. The reviews have not been kind.

PS~ I love your blog. And we’ve got much in common ~ I thank my Mom, too, for my love of reading. She was a librarian and raised me on books, not TV!

Take care, and very nice to meet you…

I would have to say that Daniel Craig is the best James Bond of all times.,,,
