Weekend Wrap-Up: Thanksgiving, the 80′s, movies

This is going to be kind of a long post, so please bear with me. There will be pictures, so it won’t be all that painful. Did you all have a good Thanksgiving? Did you stuff yourselves silly? Did any of you dieters cheat this holiday? How many pounds do you think you gained? Did you do traditional turkey or something else? My family, who hasn’t done traditional turkey in years, had a very non-traditional Thanksgiving: lamb, two different kinds of fish, chicken and stuffing. How’s that for non-traditional? We had pumpkin pie, chocolate cake, sweet potato pie, cranberry sauce, rolls, collard greens, salad, two different kinds of Martinelli’s sparkling cider, two different types of beans…I’m getting full all over again, so I’m just gonna shut up now. We had fun. HERE are the pictures to prove it.

Saturday, while Mr. Maul was enjoying some male bonding time with his BF, I went to see AUSTRALIA with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. I don’t remember all that much after The Bucket Scene: some herding of cattle, couple of bad guys, the bombing of a city, maybe…I’m not sure. The Bucket Scene was imprinted on my eyeballs and didn’t ever really leave. Hugh doesn’t get shirtless (plenty dirty, but not shirtless) too often in this movie, but the only shot that counts is classic. So much so, that every female in the theater whimpered a bit. Including me. And then promptly wished the scene could be rewound. Possibly even paused. Yes, it was really that good. Oh, and the rest of the movie was good, too. Funny in parts, sad in others, and you even learn a little bit of history: like the fact that after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, they hopped on over to Australia and bombed this little town called Darwin. Betcha didn’t know that, did ya? Me, neither. Probably because it’s part of Australia’s history, not America’s.

Saturday night, we went to an 80’s party. Mr. Maul went as the Karate Kid. OMG, we had so much fun! Doc Brown, Devo, Pee Wee Herman, Val Kilmer (a la Real Genius), Rainbow Brite, Steve Urkel and a bunch of other people from the 80′s showed up. Actually, he looks like one of those guys at BeniHana. LOL. CLICK PIC FOR BIGGER VIEW.

Sunday, we went to see TRANSPORTER 3 (I love me some Jason Statham). The first one will always be the best, but Mr. Maul liked this one over #2; maybe because there was more action in it. It was like CRANK, but not as frantic. Some of the stunts were a little unbelieveable, but I love it when he fights shirtless. Jason’s torso is more ripped than Hugh’s, but it seems like he hunches his shoulders a bit, the way bodybuilders do when they’re trying to draw attention to that area. Could be just the way he stands or the natural “hang” (like a hanger) of his shoulders. It never fails, though, that he always ends up fighting shirtless. Al-ways.

WRITING MOVEMENT – I’m still holding at page 10. I didn’t make my deadline, but I’m almost done. I don’t know why I’ve been such a procrastinator with this. Wait a minute, yes I do know and we’ve already covered that issue. I left the house this morning without the notebook, but I’ll get back into Writing Mode tomorrow.

SPECIAL OFFER – As you can see from the below post, Book One of the series will be available for Pre-order during the month of December. But only to subscribers of my quarterly newsletter. If you want to take advantage of the special offer, head on over to my Newsletter page and sign up.

So, how was your weekend?

I love Jason Statham too :) Crank was HILARIOUS; I got to see his bum – yum yum haha. I’d see Transporter 3 ;)

  2. Celise says:

Yay! Another Jason Statham lover. And yes, I liked CRANK, too. Mr. Maul and I were a bit scandalized by that public display of…affection. His mouth was hanging open for a few seconds, which made me laugh. I couldn’t imagine having to film that scene. And it’s not like she could’ve gotten a double for that, either, because it would’ve been pretty obvious that it wasn’t her. That takes serious acting chops to pull that off.

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving over in Old Europe… I wish we did, when I hear about all the lovely food from you Bloggers!
I didn’t know that part of Australian history either! I only know about Darwin because a friend of mine was born there.
I love theme parties. And guess what? I’m listening to some 80s hits just now! My favourite is LULLABY by The Cure, and I like THE RIDDLE by Nik Kershaw too ^^ WOW, your 80s outfit is really crazy! Glad to know you didn’t dress like that back then ^^ Just kidding.

No one can be closely like me. Occasionally yet I have planned trouble doing it.
