Random Thought #39

Reason # 5,054,654 why I will never have kids…

My coworker told me today that her 2 yr old son was diagnosed with autism.

I was shocked.

He’s been having all these doctor’s appointments and they met with a developmental doctor yesterday and he gave them the news.

She told me that it didn’t come as a surprise to her, but it did to her husband.

There were signs, but they thought he was just being silly. He’s only 2 after all and babies do silly things.

But out of the 15-20 questions the doctor asked them, they responded positively to about 85% of them.

She won’t find out for another couple of weeks what type of autism he has, but it’s not as bad as what can happen (head banging, no eye contact, no physical contact, etc). And it won’t progress beyond the symptoms he’s showing right now.

She’s handling it extremely well, but her hubby isn’t, as is their family.
He thought it was something he had done. He was an SAHD for a while and mostly takes care of him at home. The doctor reassured him that it was nothing he’d done.

I’m just…wow. I can’t even comprehend.

This little boy is the cutest, most adorable baby you’ve ever seen in your life. It just seems so, so unfair.

There’s no cure for autism. Only medication, treatment, hope and faith.

I have faith in this little boy.

I have faith that they’ll be able to get him to communicate—in some way—by the time he’s in kindergarten.

I hope that he’ll be able to live a normal life.

Normal according to an autistic child, that is.
