Road Trip Wednesday is a “Blog Carnival”, where YA Highway‘s contributors post a weekly writing or reading-related question and answer it in on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination and get everybody’s unique take on the topic.
You’re more than welcome to participate! Just answer the question on your own blog, and leave a link to it in their comments.
Topic #14: What are your favorite book covers?
My favorite book covers are visual and cartoony-like. Let me explain…
I’ve mentioned several times over that I’m an adult romance freak. So, you can imagine what those covers look like. You don’t? Oh, well, then go visit Alison Kent or Jill Shalvis. The majority of the romance books stuffed neatly on my shelves have gorgeous, half-naked men on them. Oh, and sometimes they’re clutching-gazing-dreamily-caressing-you-get-the-gist a woman.
When I read a book, I like to get a visual of the characters and for me it sometimes helps to have a person on the cover. Sometimes the description of the character doesn’t match the cover (I hear that happens sometimes), but that doesn’t matter. From time to time, I find myself flipping back to the cover just to better identify.
On the other hand, it’s not always about the eye candy. I also like the cartoony, illustrated look, like Beth Ciotta’s Lover’s Trilogy (scroll down a little bit) or Annette Blair’s Triplet Witch and Accidental Witch series. I know that it’s going to be a fun, whimsical, yet serious book.
You really can judge a book by it’s cover because that’s the part that interests me the most. Well, that and what’s on the back. Of course.
