Weekend Wrap-Up: A movie and not much else

October 6, 2008 | Life in General, Movie Queue, The 4-1-1 on Me, Weekend Wrap-Up

The hubby and I went to see How To Lose Friends and Alienate People yesterday. Very funny. I spent the rest of the weekend washing and packing for my trip this week.

I’ll be out of town on business for my day job. I’ll be leaving this afternoon and returning on Thursday, with no access to the Internet. That’s not true. I could probably bring my laptop, but I would need a wireless card to hook up to the outside world. I figure I could use the break, so I’ll just bring a few books.

I’ll see you all later. Feel free to share your weekend activities.

Weekend Wrap-Up: Aurora, the military, more laundry, and Dexter

September 29, 2008 | Boob Tube, Family Portrait, Life in General, Movie Queue, The 4-1-1 on Me, Weekend Wrap-Up

A friend of mine is the Committee Chair for the Aurora Foundation. The homebase is in Tucson and the founder wants to bring it down here, but Sam (my friend) needs help. I went to an informational meeting on Saturday to find out what the organization’s all about and to see where I could volunteer my skills.

Which, turns out, will be in the form of press releases. Cool by me. This organization is going to do a lot for young girls with disabilities so I’m looking forward to working with them.

Spent a little time at Ulta (now I don’t have to go so damn far to get my make-up, Bare Esenctuals) and went to Best Buy and bought a new CD (Three Days Grace, 1st album).

On Sunday, the hubby and I went to see EAGLE EYE. Very action-packed. Shia has grown into quite a handsome guy. Despite his scrapes with the law. This movie brings to mind “How safe are our cell phones?” According to this movie, not safe at all. We’re in a technological age, where everything is run by computers, so anyone could have access to anything about you and your life. That was brought home, in detail, during a scene in this movie. And the fact that the military created the “villain”, so to speak, didn’t surprise me at all. I’m sure this was the #1 movie over the weekend–our theater was quite full–and it deserved to be. It was really great and it’s going to make you more aware. If not somewhat paranoid.

And laundry. What more can I say about that except it seems like I do it every Sunday. Maybe moreso lately because I like to let it get to the point of Leaning Tower of Dirty Laundry before finally caving in. And then I get mad when I have to do 5 baskets worth. And no, I don’t put them away the same day. At least, not all of them. Too tired.

So, one of our favorite shows premiered last night. A show of hands for Dexter fans out there. If you saw my previous post, then you know that Sundays and Mondays are our craziest nights of TV watching. And Suzy was kind enough to point it out, because really, I didn’t want the reality of knowing how many TV shows we watch. Thanks, Suze. Thanks so much. For y’know, breakin’ it down for me. Sigh.

So, how was your weekend?

Weekend Wrap-Up: movies, put-put and loafin’

September 1, 2008 | Life in General, Movie Queue, The 4-1-1 on Me, Weekend Wrap-Up

On Saturday, the hubby and I went to see Babylon A.D. with the sexy Vin Diesel. I liked it, because, y’know, it was Vin Diesel, but the hubby wasn’t too fond of it. Apparently, it didn’t do very well with the critics. I even read that the director trashed the movie.

But it has Vin Diesel.

Even though it came in at #2 over the weekend, I can see where the critics are coming from. It would’ve been nice to know about the girl’s “special purpose” ahead of time. Someone made mention of the movie “Children of Men” (Clive Owen, Julianne Moore), which was FABULOUS. It was kind of like that but not as good. It was also shades of “The Fifth Element” (Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich) my fav movie of all time, with the whole “one supreme being” theme. But, again, it came up short. Although the children at the end were adorable as hell.

The good thing about movies though, in my opinion, are the previews. I get a little upset if we’re not there in time to see them. We saw three good ones: The Fast and The Furious (new model, original parts…read: original cast) is coming summer of 2009. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. Together again. AWWWWW YEEEAAAHHH! I’m so there. And Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne. I’ve seen the commercials for this video game and just considered it to be another one of those realistic-type video games you see out there nowadays.

Until I saw the trailer.

Needless to say, I have no desire to play the video game, but I’m curious to see what the black-winged creatures are all about. It kinda reminded me of “Constantine” (Keanu Reeves, Rachel Wiesz) and I really liked that movie. Speaking of Keanu, he has a sci-fi one that I know my Dad is gonna wanna see called “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” Hoo-weee that one looked good.

That night, we had dinner with the hubby’s best friend and visiting family members. After that, we played miniature golf at Castles and Coasters(mini, mini theme park with a mini golf course, a couplf of roller coasters, go-carts, bumper boats, etc.) I haven’t done that in so long but we had a fabulous time. There was an even number of us (6), so we split into teams. I think I did the best in my group. Now I understand how the pros feel because man…those courses were a little crazy. You had 6 strokes to do what you needed to do and sometimes that wasn’t enough. LOL. I’m sure the pros are allowed more than that (or maybe be not. I don’t follow pro golf) but try to do their best not to. Mini-golf. Gotta love it.

Spent a good long day with my BF getting her room cleaned-up on Sunday. She’s renting a room owned by 20-something brothers (the young brother is 23 or 24 and just got married in July. The older 27 yr old brother is dating a 20 yr old. Yeah. Much drama in the house. More writing material for me. LOL) and I was helping her clean it up. Or at least make a sizeable dent. Because it looked like a bomb went off in there. Having a room that messy would have driven me nuts. Then again, I never would’ve let it get like that because I’m like my Mom in that respect: Toss it. Toss everything. Which is what I wanted to do, but we had to go about it in an orderly way. LOL. She’s a pack rat. So’s my husband. It’s annoying, to say the least.

Hope you all are enjoying your holiday today. We’re doing a whole lot of…nothing. I may go and do some reading. Haven’t been doing much of that lately, shocker there. So, how was your weekend?

Weekend Wrap-up: relaxation

August 25, 2008 | Life in General, Movie Queue, The 4-1-1 on Me, Weekend Wrap-Up

Every year, the hubby’s company does an “employee appreciation” thing. They choose a hotel within the Phx city limits or in Tucson, we get a free nights stay and a per couple stipend to spend on whatever we want. This weekend was employee appreciation weekend and we spent it at The Wigwam Resort. The hubby and I usually go down the night before. Couples were given $75/per couple stipend this time and I chose to spend it at Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door Spa and got a cream and sugar scrub. Loved. It. The scent I chose was Vanilla Fig. I normally don’t like the scent of vanilla, but since it wasn’t just straight up vanilla, I liked it.

That night was the company dinner and this was my ensemble: CLICK ON PIC FOR LARGER VIEW

Hair: Destiny Hair Braiding (I got this done the
weekend of the 15th)
Dress: Silky Handerkerchief Dress from Avon
Shoes: Old Navy
Make-up:Bare Minerals’ Warmth All Over Face Color and Bare Minerals Mineral Veil by Bare Escentuals
Eyeshadow: Bare Minerals Beautiful Autumn, Bare Minerals Kiko, and Bare Minerals In the Buff by Bare Escentuals
Blush: “Cheekers” by Cover Girl
Lipstick: Brown Sugar Glazewear Liquid Lip Color by Avon

(Thought I might take a page from Mrs. Elf)

I got quite a few comments on my dress and everyone was surprised when I told them it was from Avon. They’ve stepped up their game, people. It’s not just make-up and Skin-So-Soft. I’ve got 6 dresses in my closet that I bought from Avon. Not to mention a couple of pairs of shoes. They’ve really go cute stuff.

We checked out Sunday morning and went to see Death Race in the afternoon. The hubby and I are big fans of Jason Statham. We like it when he does the martial arts stuff. So, how was your weekend?

Weekend Wrap-Up: just call Miss Slacker

August 5, 2008 | Book One, Book Stuff, DA Series, Draven Atreides, Life in General, Movie Queue, The 4-1-1 on Me, Weekend Wrap-Up

I missed the bus all the way around last week, didn’t I? I only posted once, forget to post the rest of DA Chapter Two today…Chapter Three should’ve started this month, but, well…. So, I know you’re gonna hate me for this (especially Draven. Sorry girlfren’), but I’m going to stop posting the story for now.

Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. I hate to cut you off at the knees just when you were getting into it, but I thought it seemed kinda fruitless since it’s not coming out until 2010. I’ll start it again in April 2009, from the beginning. It’ll make more sense then, believe me.

Slacker is a pretty apt word for what I did–or didn’t do–this weekend. The hubby and I went to see The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor on Saturday. We liked it. Don’t know what the critics have been saying, but we liked it. My husband pointed out that the son has grown up, but, funny, Brendan Fraser doesn’t look like he’s aged at all. LOL. Which is true. I have no idea how old Brendan is (and where was Rachel Weisz? She played Evie in the first two), but he still looks the same as he did in the first two. Same hair-do and everything!

The hubby and I have decided to move out of our house and get a townhome, so we checked out a complex near our house before the movie. We’re checking out two more this Sunday. We’re hoping to move out by next year, once we repair some things. I know the market for selling a house isn’t all that great, but we’re hoping ours will get snapped up quickly. It’s an older house in an older neighborhood. And I can’t tell you how many times the house next door to us has changed hands. Maybe we’ll get lucky. I’ll have to throw that out into the universe and see what we get back.

So, how was your weekend?
