What’s your ringtone? Do you have more than one? Why did you choose it?
General Public: “Bleed It Out” by Linkin Park - Well, duh, they’re my favorite band.
Hubby: “Duel of the Fates” by ? (don’t know if it’s by the same guy): Darth Maul. Star Wars. I’ve told you the stories already.
Sister: “Do It To It” by ? – I don’t remember the name of the group but it was a girl group (sisters I think) and it started with a C. I chose it because I could picture her shaking her shoulders to it. And it was time for a new song. The other one used to be “Move (Get Out The Way)” by Ludacris.
Niece: “Milkshake” by Kelis – Very sassy song and my niece is a very sassy young woman. And, really, her milkshakes could bring all the boys to the yard. She’s currently got a good one.
BF Amy: “Bodicea” by Enya – cuz she’s become a very New Age-y person.
BF Ken: “Getting Away With Murder” by Papa Roach - no, he’s never done time. But it’s a hard, rockin’ song that seemed to fit my motorcycle-ridin’ buddy of 20-some years.
Parental Units: “Tears of a Clown” by Smokey and the Miracles - Because I grew up listening to Motown and I always associate that type of music with them.
Your turn.

Why can’t men just man up?
I had a serious love jones for Rob Lowe. Back in the day. Serious.
I was a MONDO fan of New Kids on The Block (Jordan Knight was my fav). Mondo like pictures on the ceiling mondo. Yeah. It was bad.
I loved listening to N’SYNC. (JC Chasez was my fav) Not so much Backstreet Boys, although I thought Kevin was pretty hot.
I have a Mrs. Robinson..thing…for Zac Efron.
I freakin’ LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Linkin Park. They are, without a doubt, my all-time favorite band. I have all their albums, I have “Bleed It Out” as my ringtone when the general public is calling me (friends and family have special songs. I’ll make that another post) and I will never tire of hearing their songs on the radio. They. Are. The Shit.
I freely admit it. There is no shame in my game. I was cheesy. I’m probably still cheesy, but I can freely admit all the above.
So I don’t understand why my hubby cannot admit that he loves Beyonce.
Yeah, babe, I said it.
The cat’s out of the bag.
Everybody knows.
And yet…
The world didn’t fall off its axis.
No one’s pointing fingers at you and whispering behind your back.
No one thinks you’re dorky for liking Beyonce.
There’s a video of this one song* that she sings (don’t ask me what it is because all I hear in my head right now is “Single Ladies”) and he likes the video because, among other things, one of the guys is a really good dancer and he wished he could dance like that. When I told one of my co-workers this, and then told him (because I wanted to know the name of the song), he nearly had a heart attack.
“What did you tell her that for?” he protested.
“What’s the big deal?” I mean, really, what was the big deal?
“She doesn’t need to know that. Gawd.”
I didn’t get it then and I still don’t get it now. Was it because I mentioned the dancing thing? Maybe it embarrassed him. Did I make him sound lame when I told her that? If so, that was not my intent. I mean, if he loved, loved, loved Elton John (we have nothing against homosexuals), then yeah, he’d want to keep that to himself. I’m sure thousands of men love Beyonce and have no problem saying, “I love Beyonce. I love her music, she’s a great dancer, and I think she’s effin’ hot.” He could say that to my face and I wouldn’t care. I mean, do I get all upset that he has a picture of her on his computer instead of me? No. I’m on his cell phone, though, so I’m not gonna complain.
He teases his BF for listening to bands like Styxx, Foreigner and Journey. And really, it’s just teasing and his BF knows he’s just giving him shit for the hell of it. But dollars to donuts, his BF never says “Yeah? Well, you listen to that girly Beyonce crap.” LOL. As serious as his BF is, I can’t picture him saying that becuz it would be laughable. It’s like a deep, dark, shameful secret or something. Case in point. He bought her new album the day it came out.
Checkout person: “We’ve been selling a lot of these today.”
Hubby: “Yeah, my wife really wanted it.” Um. Really? Since when?
LOL. That’s what I did when he told me that. I laughed out loud. If I’d been there with him when he’d bought it, I would’ve released an unladylike snort and looked at him in disbelief. And then before I could contradict that preposterous claim, he would’ve hustled me outta there like a misbehaved child….(damn that was good. Hang on, I need to write these sentences down to use later on)
Despite my comment in Random Thought #6, I’m not totally hatin’ on Bey-Bey (aka Sasha Fierce. WTF??!). I do like her choreography and I do like some of her songs (“Baby Boy, “Upgrade”, to name a couple). I’m just gonna get sick of hearing “Single Ladies.” Repetitive songs like that tend to tap dance on my last nerve after a while. I’ll be glad when she finally comes out with another song.
I suppose it could be worse. He could’ve picked a rapper who cusses every other word.
*All I can remember at this time is the one line: “Naomi Campbell walk. Do the…Naomi Campbell walk.” Would you like to pre-order Book One in the DA series before the general public? The first person that can tell me the title of that song will be given the password to the protected pre-order page.

Is it possible to play a CD so much that it starts to skip a little bit? If so, that’s what I’ve done with this CD:

I bought Tantric‘s new CD, “The End Begins“, about a month ago and have left it in the CD player in my car ever since. I saw these guys perform for free a couple of months ago and they were great. There is not a bad song on here, although I do find myself putting the following songs on repeat:
#2) Down and Out
#3) The One
#4) Love Song
I bought the CD after hearing an interview they did (the new member, Marcus, is a violinist and the DJ said he looked like Colin Farrell) and then saw them in concert. Marcus was quite handsome, but not as handsome as Colin. Actually, seeing him live reminded me of George Michael in his “Faith” video. He was wearing jeans, a white tank top, and the same sunglasses as George. And he sure knows how to play a violin. I need to get their first album, but wanted to get this one because they play “Down and Out” on the radio a lot and I really like the violin intro. I think having a violinist really adds to a rock group. I find it quite sexy, actually. And progressive. And cool.
My favorite song is Down and Out but I think the lyrics to Love Song are funny: I never want to hear a love song/It’s all a bunch of lies and I’ve been put on/I know it’s like I’m bitter I don’t give a shit/I hope you’re really happy and you choke on it. LOL. Love it.
I gave Tantric a chance to rest when I bought this CD:

I bought Three Days Grace‘s new album, “One-X”, last week. I’ve been wanting to buy their stuff for some time, but just kept forgetting. When I was making out my anniversary list for my hubby, I put both of their CD’s on the list. With that $50 BN GC he gave me, I bought 4 books and this CD (I still have $5 left, too!).
I’ve been listening to it, non-stop, for two days now. I want to see this band in concert because once again, there is not a bad song on this album. My favorites are:
#1) It’s All Over
#3) Animal I Have Become (this sounds like it should be the theme song for some supernatural-type show)
#4) Never Too Late
#6) Riot
#7) Get Out Alive
#9) Over and Over
#12) One-X
I’ve put #7 and #9 on repeat several times. Adam, the lead singer, has such a great gravelly, straining voice. It always sounds like he’s in pain, but a good pain. If that’s possible. I have a feeling this one is going to get a little skippy, too.
If it’s your kind of music, click on the links and take a listen. I highly recommend these bands.

The big news this weekend was my author visit at the Page Public Library in Page, AZ Saturday afternoon. I had a great time, even though I was a tad nervous. I spoke to a full house of mostly 6th and 7th graders with a couple of teachers thrown in. The students made feel like such a celebrity when they asked me to sign my bookmarks.
A wonderful young adult by the name of Alex really made my day being the first eager audience member to arrive and telling me she’s always wanted to meet an author. She was the only student who asked questions, too! Thanks Alex! I can’t wait to see your work.
I think everyone was a bit shy, which is probably why they came up afterwards. I even gave one lucky entrant a chance to win a Purse Charmer set (two SassyPurseCandy.com keychains, and two charmers for their phone). By the time I got home, Alex had already posted a comment on my Author Visit post on Friday and another member of the audience contacted me through my website. I look forward to seeing your poems, Shaylynn.
Being born and raised in one place most of your life sometimes makes you forget what your state has to offer. I was reminded once again during our road trip to Page. I’ve never been to Page (heck, there are a lot of towns I haven’t been to in AZ), but it’s located on the northern most tip of AZ. It’s 76 miles from the AZ/UT border.
And I have never seen more beautiful scenery in all my life.
The hubby and I decided that the next time I get invited up there, we’re going to take the day off and play tourist. The town is famous for the Glen Canyon Dam–something we were partially able to see by looking out the lobby window of our hotel. Geez, and wait till you see the view from the room where I spoke. Abso-freakin’-lutely breathtaking. I could totally be content reading a book in that room.
As beautiful as Page is, I’m definitely a city woman. I could not handle a movie theater that 1) only shows two movies at a time and 2) doesn’t show current releases. The hubby couldn’t quite believe it, either. He kept thinking there had to be another theater. I had to keep reminding him “We’re in a small town, hon. There are not going to be any AMC 14 theaters here.” Although we were told an IMAX would be making its way there soon.
And I don’t remember seeing a Barnes and Noble, either. As much as I lived in the public library during high school, I now prefer to buy my books new.
But they had a Super Walmart and a couple of major grocery stores. Which is always a plus.
I would just want to say thanks again to Debbie Winlock, Library Director, for finding me through Google and inviting me to come out. I look forward to doing it again soon.

On Sunday, I spent a good portion of the day in a movie theater. I saw 10,000 B.C. and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. The first one was okay. I came away with two new names to add to my list of Boys and Girls Names; D’Leh and Evolet. Very unique, if I do say so myself. I like that. LOVED the second movie. I’m diggin’ that actress Amy Adams. She kinda reminds me of Goldie Hawn. Y’know, that flighty, ditzy, totally clueless-but-not personality? It seems to work for her. If you saw Enchanted–and liked it–then you’ll like Miss Pettigrew. I haven’t seen any of her other stuff, so I don’t know what her acting range is (anybody wanna clue me in?). Amazingly enough, the whole movie takes place in one day. Hence the name.
Oh, and Frances McDormand was faboo as Miss Pettigrew.
Whew! That’s it for me. How was your weekend?

Featuring: Linkin Park, Smashing Pumpkins, Disturbed, Goo Goo Dolls, The Used, Him, Taking Back Sunday, Styles of Beyond, Armor for Sleep, Idiot Pilot, Julien-K, MuteMouth

I was psyched to know that one of my favorite groups, Linkin Park, was going to be on this album. Their song is first, which is cool. So, here are my picks:
#1 “What I’ve Done” – Linkin Park: Because, well, duh. They’re my favorite. And this is just one of many good songs off their new CD Minutes to Midnight.
#7 “What’s it feel like to be a Ghost?” – Taking Back Sunday: I liked that a little over 3 minutes into this song, they kinda slow it down and it sounds like they put a choir in there. But that could just be great background vocals or something.
#8 “Second to None” Styles of Beyond featuring Mike Shinoda – Mike is the other lead singer/rapper from Linkin Park. This song sounds like something LP would do and found myself not only bopping my head, but actually wanting to get up and dance.
#9 “End of the World” Armor for Sleep: I liked the part where they said “Hell is going to bring parents to their knees.” Yes, I know, what a sick puppy thought. Part of the main lyrics–chorus?–had something to do with falling asleep while they drop the bomb. There was nothing funny or doomsday-ish about it, just very clever lyrics.
#11 “Technical Difficulties” – Julien-K: I really liked this song. They–he?–reminded me of the group, Prodigy. It’s got a heavy techno beat that could be found in a club and though I absolutely hate techno music, I would gladly bust a move if the DJ played this song.
#12 “Transformers Theme” – MuteMouth: For some reason, the lead singer sounds like Sting to me. And that’s not a bad thing. Really. I like Sting, it’s just unusual to hear someone that sounds like him in an alternative group.
Out of the 12 songs on this CD, four of them were not in the film. Surprisingly, #12 was one of them. It’s a newer, updated version of the Transformers theme song, but it’s still the theme song. I think it should’ve been played at the end of the movie, at least. Maybe even listed first on the album (no matter how much I love Linkin Park). If you don’t like alternative music, then you’re not going to like this soundtrack. I’ve never even heard of at least 5 bands on this CD, but I’m diggin’ it because it’s the kind of music I listen to on a daily basis.
You can listen to music samples from this soundtrack HERE
Song titles that would make good book titles:
#5 “Pretty Handsome Awkward” – The Used
#6 “Passion’s Killing Floor” – Him
Song title I’ll probably skip over:
#10 “Retina in the Sky” – Idiot Pilot: It didn’t really appeal to me at all.
